HOIC Volleyball Week 5 Recap

HOIC Volleyball moves into its final week before the conference tournament this week. Last week saw some movement near the top of the standings with EPG falling in tough matches to Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack. EPG is now 9-2 in HOIC play while Dee-Mack slides into second place at 10-1 and Tri-Valley remains unbeaten at 10-0. Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack will face off Tuesday October 15th in a key match. After the top three, Flanagan-Cornell, GCMS, and Lexington all sit at 6-4 and Eureka and Fieldcrest are both 5-5 heading into the final week.

Tournament seeds will be set after Thursday’s matches are completed and any tiebreakers are applied. Tournament information will be available on Friday. The tournament runs Oct. 22nd, 24th and 26th at Dee-Mack.

Week 7 in HOIC football included crossover games between divisions. Fisher (5-2) was the lone winner from the small division, defeating Dee-Mack 30-24 (2-5). In other games, Fieldcrest (7-0) remained unbeaten with a 43-0 win over Ridgeview-Lexington (2-5), GCMS (6-1) downed LeRoy (2-5) 42-0, and Eureka (6-1) topped Tremont (4-3) 41-6. EPG (2-5) traveled out-of-conference and fell to Knoxville 46-14.

Weeks 8 and 9 close out the season with divisional matchups. In week 8, EPG travels to GCMS, Dee-Mack visits Tri-Valley, and Fieldcrest hosts Eureka in a key matchup in the Large Division. In the Small Division, Ridgeview-Lexington hosts Fisher, Heyworth visits LeRoy, and Tremont travels out-of-conference to face Peoria Heights.

EPG and Tri-Valley remain unbeaten in HOIC volleyball play, but only one will come out of the upcoming week with a chance at being undefeated. Tri-Valley will host EPG on Tuesday in a battle of unbeatens. Dee-Mack continues to keep pace at 8-1 in conference play while GCMS and Lexington currently stand at 5-3. Tournament seeding starts to become more of a focal point as the regular season starts to wind down. The always entertaining McLean County/HOIC Volleyball Tournament begins on Oct. 22nd and several seeds will be up for grabs over the next two weeks of action.

HOIC Football Week 6 Recap

Week 6 divisional matchups in the HOIC saw teams start to position themselves for playoff contention. Fieldcrest picked up its 6th win to gain playoff eligibility with a 42-6 victory over Dee-Mack. Eureka defeated EPG 45-0 to earn its 5th win of the season while GCMS also notched win #5 with a 22-7 win over Tri-Valley. Tremont stayed unbeaten in the Small Division with a 22-13 win over Ridgeview-Lexington while Fisher held off Heyworth 29-23. Both Tremont and Heyworth now have 4 wins overall. LeRoy took care of its out-of-conference opponent with a comfortable 36-6 win over South Fulton.

Week 7 is the final week of cross-over games. Fieldcrest tries to remain unbeaten when it travels to Ridgeview-Lexington. Dee-Mack hosts Fisher, Tremont visits Eureka, GCMS hosts LeRoy, and Tri-Valley plays at Heyworth. EPG goes out of conference and travels to Knoxville.
