As part of its mission to provide high-quality professional development to educators and other school staff, the Heart of Illinois Conference offered a training and networking event for paraprofessionals, library and media specialists, and administrative assistants from HOIC schools on Friday Feb. 15th. Victoria Padilla and Kelly Nyert from ROE 17 presented to administrative assistants, Kelli Peterson from Woodford County Special Education Co-op presented to paraprofessionals, and library and media specialists met for networking and collaboration.

The HOIC provides professional development opportunities to its member schools on a regular basis with monthly teacher collaboration meetings. There are also larger-scale annual professional development events sponsored by the conference. Promoting and supporting professional development has been a key element of the HOIC since its formation and will continue to be in the future.

The top-seeds took the titles at the 2019 McLean County/HOIC Basketball Tournament. On the girls side, the Eureka girls defeated #7 EPG 41-37 to take the crown. #4 Ridgeview defeated #6 Fieldcrest to take 3rd place, #2 GCMS downed #5 Dee-Mack for 5th place, and #10 LeRoy defeated #9 Heyworth for the Consolation Championship.

In the 108th edition of the boys tournament, GCMS rallied late to top #6 EPG 40-36. #2 Dee-Mack defeated #4 Fieldcrest in the 3rd place game, #7 Eureka downed #5 LeRoy in the 5th place game, and #10 Flanagan-Cornell won the Consolation Championship over #9 Ridgeview.

Congratulations to the Heyworth Hornets for winning the 2019 HOIC Wrestling Duals. Heyworth finished 6-1 and won the head-to-head with LeRoy/Tri-Valley (also 6-1) for the title. Tremont and EPG finished 5-2.

GCMS won its 28th straight game to complete back-to-back undefeated seasons en route to its 2nd consecutive 2A football championship. The Falcons defeated Maroa-Forsyth 35-16 in a rematch of the 2017 state championship game. This marked the 4th consecutive 2A state title for the HOIC — Tri-Valley in 2015, Dee-Mack in 2016, GCMS in 2017 and 2018.
