EPG Baseball and Tremont Softball win HOIC with Unblemished Records
Both El Paso-Gridley's baseball team and Tremont's softball team finished the season with perfect 12-0 marks in HOIC play to wrap up conference championships. EPG finished two games ahead of second-place Fisher (10-2) to win its first HOIC regular season crown. Tremont's softball team won its second HOIC title and first since the inaugural year of the conference in 2007. Tremont edged second-place Tri-Valley (11-1) to win the title. Good luck to all teams in the postseason.
Due to the number of conference games that have been postponed and need to be made up because of weather, there will not be a baseball or softball conference tournament this year. The week of the tournament will be used to make up games that have not yet been played.
EPG Girls Basketball Takes 3rd Place at State Tourney
The El Paso-Gridley girls basketball team defeated Walther Lutheran of Melrose Park 55-46 at the IHSA Girls Basketball 2A State Tournament. The Titans had fallen 62-48 to Champaign St. Thomas More the previous night in the semifinals, but rebounded on Saturday to finish 3rd. Congratulations to the Titans on an outstanding season. They finished the season with an overall record of 30-2.
GCMS Sweeps McLean County Track Meet
GCMS won both the boys and girls 2013 McLean County Track Meets. On the girls side, GCMS finished with 109 points. Tremont was second with 65 and Fisher and Dee-Mack tied for third with 62. On the boys side, GCMS totaled 74 points, which was 7 points better than second-place Dee-Mack and 10 points ahead of third-place Tremont.
Fieldcrest Wins 6th HOIC Boys Basketball Title in 7 Years
The Fieldcrest boys basketball team finished the HOIC schedule with a perfect 12-0 record to earn its sixth conference title in the seven years since the HOIC began play. The Knights have a regular season conference record of 79-5 over the last seven years. Congratulations to the Knights and good luck to all HOIC teams in post-season play.
